My name is Theo J. de Wit. I am the owner of the company Collectcamera.com.

My personal address is identical to the company address. On the map you will find the city of Ede near the city of Arnhem  in the middle part of the Netherlands. If you happen to be in the neighbourhood, you are welcome to visit me at my home address. I am the treasurer of the Dutch Photohistoric Society and member of the Leica Historica in Germany.

I buy and sell photographic equipment from and to users as well as collectors. I am specialized in Leica and Rollei 2-eye cameras.

I am a professional trader through the Internet and through photo shows in Europe (mostly Germany, France, England  and Belgium). You will find a lot of positive feedback from buyers on Ebay (username collectcamera.com).

Is it safe to buy at Collectcamera ?

There is a lot of fraud on the Internet, as we all know. It is difficult to determine if Internet shops are reliable enough to buy with confidence.
I started this business about 7 years ago as one of the first Dutch companies that used the Internet to sell photo equipment to users and collectors. Since then appr. 3,000 customers are satisfied with my services.
Now and then I also sell through Ebay. On January 2007 I still have a perfect feeback file with over 200 positve feedbacks. Press here to see my Ebay feedback file.

What warranty do I have that the items are delivered as described ?

Used items produced after 1987 have a 30-day warrenty against mechanical defects. We retain the right of either making a repair or making a refund in case of a mechanical defect that I did not detect myself.

For cameras and lenses produced before 1988, common sense should prevail.
One should assume that many of the items have seen little recent use and, therefore, have not recently been cleaned, lubricated, or adjusted.
This means that many items might have shutter speeds and/or light meters that might need adjusting, and that lenses and other optical items might require lubrication and/or cleaning. We can not offer a warrenty for these items which are essentially collector's items. I am not a technician myself, but I have enough knowledge of photo equipment to spot obvious flaws. I examine lenses by eye for scratches, fungus, haze or cleaning marks. I will always mention flaws in the item description. On your request it is possible to have an independent technician examine the equipment before you make the decision to buy. Of course, you will have to pay for the inspection costs in advance.

If the item is clearly not according the description, it may be returned for full credit or repair within 10 days of receipt. If defects have not been mentioned in the description, I will have it repaired at my expenses. If repair will not have   a positive result, I will refund the full amount. For mechanical defect on items that were produced after 1987  this period is extended to 30 days. Of course returned items must be in exactly the same condition when returned as they were when received by you. We do not refund any charges for shipping, handling, or insurance. Please  note that we can not accept any returns without our prior notice and approval.

So far I never had an unresolved disagreement with anyone; I always managed to find a satisfying solution whenever opinions are different. The client has the right to demand a second opinion of an independent third party (for example Leica Gmbh Germany or the Rollei representative "De Greef" in Holland).   I will comply with their opinion.

Of course I always use my knowledge to determine the originality of the equipment. I guarantee that all the equipment I sell, is original. In theory it is possible that I am the victim  of buying false equipment myself, while I sell this false equipment (without knowing the equipment is false) to customers. Rare and unusual collectors items are expensive. For your protection I give warrenty on originality for a period of 1 year !

How does the rating system work ?

Here is the explanation of the rating that I use in the item description:
New:  New and unused in the original box with papers.
As new: Has had a previous owner, but looks unused
Mint: Without mentionable traces of use
A:  Very minor visible traces of use.
B:  Less than average traces of use.
C:  Average traces of use.
D:  Heavily marked

Dents, scratches and other damages are always mentioned. The optical quality of lenses is always described (coating !).

How much for the shipping costs

That depends on the weight and size and the choice of carrier. As a standard I ship by post office, because it is reliable and relatively cheap. Shipment by UPS is a lot more expensive, but also a lot quicker.

In step two of the order process you will see the shipping charge for various ways of shipment when shipped by post office, UPS or FedEx. In general I have to say that shipment by UPS or FedEx is quite expensive That is why I advice shipment by insured priority mail through post office. This is quite safe at a relatively low price. Of course you make your own choice of shipment.

Do I have to pay handling costs

No, I don't charge any handling costs

Can I insure the shipment ?

Yes, you can insure the shipment without limitation to any location. I do advice insured shipment if the value is higher than USD 100.00. In case a shipment gets lost, you will be compensated for the full amount.

What is the chance that a shipment gets damaged ?

I would say that the chance is less than 1 in a thousand occasions. Photographic equipment is expensive and vulnerable. I will pack the item in a very secure way, using all the available modern means. I have experienced a damage shipment only once; this was a vulnarable enlarger.

Do I have to pay VAT ?

If you live outside the EU, you never have to pay VAT. As a rule no VAT is due for EU buyers. For a very limited number of items, I have to charge 19% VAT for European buyers. You will find this information on the item description. In case VAT is due, this percentage comes on top of the mentioned prices. In the description of the item you will find if VAT is due or not. On the invoice you'll find this VAT seperately. When you run a business this amount is deductable.

Do I have to pay import tax ?

Customers within the EU never pay import tax. If you live outside the EU, the import tax percentage depends on the country you live in. US citizins pay a very low percentage or nothing at all.

What if my package gets lost ?

In the last five years I shipped appr. 1,700 packages outside Europe by Dutch Postal Services (DPS). In total 2 of them got lost (one to Singapore and one to the USA). In both cases the amount of the insurance was paid about 10 weeks after the package was sent. None of the shipments within the EU has ever been lost.

If a package has not been delivered after 3 weeks, I have to fill in a form at the post office. After that it will take a maximum of 2 months for the post office to investigate. You will be asked if the package has been delivered at your address by the postal service in your country. I will be informed  about the results of the investigation. If the package has not been located, payment of the insured amount will follow shortly after that. I will pass this payment immediately to you by crediting your PayPal or credit card account or by money transfer. Further more I will inform you about every stage of the investigation. As soon as I receive message from the post office, I will pass this to you.

If you decide not to insure the package, I will ship by registered mail. You will have to sign when delivered at your address. If a registered package gets lost, the post office will compensate US$ 45.00 if and when the investigation has terminated without result.

Occasionally shipments to the USA delay as a result of the tight security in this country.

When shipments by UPS or FedEx get lost or delayed, the procedure is about the same, but much faster.

No, having second thoughts because you have no need for the item anymore or in case you have seen a better alternative elsewhere is not a good reason to return the goods.

Of course I always use my knowledge to determine the originality of the equipment. I guarantee that all the equipment I sell, is original.
